University of Nevada, Las Vegas commonly known as UNLV is a public university located in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. It’s a co educational university known for its programs in Engineering, History, Hotel administration, Environmental studies, Management Information Systems and Fine Arts. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of teaching has ranked UNLV in the category of Intensive Doctoral/Research Universities.

Besides being highly acclaimed, the linguistics department of the UNLV has been recognized as having one of the most innovative MFA programs and in top five when it comes to art of creative writing. The most important part of the university is its campus. It is located Maryland Parkway, south eastern Las Vegas just about 1.5 miles off the Las Vegas Strip.

Maryland Parkway is one of the most travelled arterial streets for Las Vegas NV travel. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus was started in April, 1956 on 60 acres. The campus is now a whopping 337 acres with another 640 acres in reserve in North Las Vegas for further expansion.

Besides this, there is also a shadow lane campus on Charleston and Shadow lane, east of the UMC Medical Center. Midtown UNLV is a project that is considering revamping the Maryland Parkway to serve the campus community better. The UNLV houses the National Supercomputing Center for Energy and the Environment, and plays an active role in its management and day to day functioning although, it is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers more than 200 different programs of study in doctorate, masters and bachelor’s degrees. The university has around 850 faculty members and 31000 students out of which 26000 are enrolled in under graduate while 5000 are enrolled in postgraduate courses. Notable departments include the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering, School of Architecture, William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, School of Dental Medicine, Graduate College, College of Education and William S. Boyd School of Law.
