Mirage Volcano

Volcanoes are frightening. However, the spirit of volcano is appealing to the world. Mirage Volcano is an attempt to exploit this fortitude. It is as if the entire Las Vegas is ignited by the volcano. When you travel to Las Vegas, you will notice it.

Mirage Volcano opened in 1989 and immediately became a tourist attraction. The sound, light and water effect, added in 1996 was like adding fire to the fuel. Yes, it started attracting more crowds after the features were added.

The Mirage Volcano comprises of two volcano systems, a lagoon and fire fighters. The fire fighters are responsible for shooting flames in the air, on demand up to 12 feet. The waterfalls and surrounding pools with fire and smoke effects add to the charm of this attraction. The uniqueness of the show lies in combining fire and water effects.

All that you see at the Mirage Volcano is achieved through deft computer programming. The software itself is titled ‘virtualWET’. Using the software the intended volcanic activity is visually composed. The program is then transferred to the panel which controls the fountain. As a visitor, you will hardly realize the role of the computer program in what is presented before your eyes.

Among the various features that make the Mirage Volcano such a huge attraction is its hypnotizing music score. Bonnie Thompson, the designer and choreographer, explains that she was attracted by the tribal dance and cultures of volcanoes and manipulated the actions with music.

Legendary drummer Mr. Micky Hart and the Indian composer Mr. Zakir Hussain have scored the music part of the Volcano. The duo has joined to bring out the best exclusively for the Mirage Volcano.

To enjoy the best view of the Mirage Volcano, you should start early to find your place right in front of the Volcano. Standing in front, you are not going to get hurt, but conversely, you will feel the heat of the flames with pulsating music forming the accompaniment. The overall feel will be as though you are in the midst of volcanoes.
