
Las Vegas Zoo
The Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanic Park, also known as the Las Vegas Zoo, is under the management of Nevada Zoological Foundation, which is a non-profit organization. This 3-acre shady park contains over 150 plant and animal species for Las Vegas Nevada travel. The educational facilities are provided to students of every age, through a natural living campus. It focuses on emphasizing the importance of habitat protection, and provides information about both rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.
The Las Vegas Zoo, which is open from 9am to 5pm, shows various exhibits, which include - a number of endangered members of the cat family, the last family of Barbary Apes in the United states, chimpanzee, ostriches, talking parrots, emus, wallabies, flamingos, etc. The natives of Southern Nevada such as large exotic reptiles, species of venomous reptiles, etc and the endangered cycads and rare bamboos are also included in the exhibits.
It answers various questions such as the animals make the adaptation for their survival in nature; the classification of various animals like mammals, reptiles, amphibians and sounds and movements made by the animals to communicate with each other. It discusses various roles that these animals play in nature, namely - predator, prey, scavenger, host and parasite.
It also teaches about the animal homes, the tracks they make, their relationship with habitat and the ecosystem, the conservative concerns regarding the endangered species, etc.
This is done innovatively with the help of some activities as planned by the Nevada Zoological Foundation. For the lower grades, fun activities like ‘Animal Clues’, ‘Zoo Scavenger Hunt’, ‘Go on a Listening Walk’, and ‘Poetry Puzzle’ are formulated in contrast with the ‘Off To The Zoo’ and ‘What Can You Find’ for the upper grades.
Worksheets are provided to the students who fill them while observing the animals, mentioning their color, body coverings, eye location, etc. Other physical features are also mentioned in this worksheet. The fun activities make the learning’s of the students relatively permanent and makes the Las Vegas Zoo a very successful place to learn about the flora and fauna portrayed by the Nevada.
