Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas Strip is a 6.4 km or 4 mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South located in Clark County, Nevada, United States. Contrary to the common belief only a small portion of the strip is in actual Las Vegas. Most of the strip lies in the unincorporated areas of Winchester and Paradise.
It is the core of the entertainment capital of the world Las Vegas. It has some of the largest casinos, hotels and resort properties located on it. Of the 25 largest hotels in the world by room count, 18 are located on the Las Vegas Strip. The total count of hotel rooms on this 4 miles strip exceeds 67,000.
The strip was called the Los Angeles Highway or the arrowhead Highway some decades ago. It was renamed by LAPD officer Guy McAfee as the Las Vegas Strip after his hometowns Sunset Strip. It is one of the most popular destinations for tourists who travel to Las Vegas Nevada and one of the prime reasons for this is the use of dynamic themes. The theme of casinos, hotels and restaurants on the strip is amazing and breathe taking experience.
In the terms of actual distance, the strip is only 4.1 miles long b/w the Russell Road and the Sahara Avenue. But in actuality, it refers to a much bigger area. It refers not only to the casinos and hotels on the strip but also all the hotels and casinos in the near proximity of the strip. The Nevada Gaming Commission refers the strip for reporting purposes and takes into account all the casinos location within approximately 1 mile radius of the strip.
The Stratosphere tower is regarded as the starting point or northern boundary of the strip and is located 0.25 miles north of the Sahara Avenue. Some old timers consider Tropicana Avenue as the end of the strip but the construction has forced us to take Russell Road as the southern end of the Strip.
Have fun while visiting the city!
