Atomic Testing Museum

Las Vegas is known for being a gambling paradise, its opulence and the colorful nightlife. However, Vegas has a scientific heritage with something as remarkable as atomic testing at its core. This is exactly what the Atomic Testing Museum is about – educating visitors about this part of Vegas’ relatively unknown history. It is located on the outskirts of Las Vegas but is easily accessible. It was founded in 1998 with the mission of preserving and spreading awareness about the history of nuclear weapons research and their testing.

A tour of the Atomic Testing Museum is initiated by giving the visitors on Las Vegas Nevada travel a quick introduction to the NTS (Nevada Test Sites) and the role it played during the Cold War. The Museum has many rare and invaluable first-hard accounts by scientists and test pilots who worked at the facility during its glory days. Also on show are some artifacts and a few modes of interactive exploration that give a realistic feel of what it felt working within such a facility.

Exhibits at the Atomic Testing Museum include Flight Simulator machines, cockpit images and a rare memorabilia of Enola Gay. Visitors on Las Vegas travel, who struggle to keep-up with the various historic facts that are displayed, can take the help of the multimedia (PowerPoint) presentations.

The Atomic Testing Museum has numerous galleries, each with a specific theme. The Galleries explain everything about the NTS, including its inception, the need for nuclear weapons, the advent of the nuclear arms race, various kinds of safety gears and how underground testing of nuclear arms began. Basically, it provides visitors every feasible piece of information related to the nuclear armaments and their development over the decades in the United States.
